The American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AMCHAM) Business and Civic Leadership Awards, seeks to celebrate, highlight and encourage those who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement.
The goal of the awards programme is to showcase businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations that are driving and achieving economic and social progress in Jamaica through ethical leadership, stewardship, and community building activities.
Individual Nominees and Organizations must have been based in Jamaica for at least 5 years, and all Companies must be incorporated in Jamaica.
Categories
AMCHAM Jamaica Business & Civic Leadership Awards will be presented in three (3) categories, with (7) Awards being offered overall as follows:
- The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence for Corporate Social Responsibility
(1) Small Companies (1) Large Companies
- The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence for Civic Leadership
(1) Individual (1) Organization (including NGO’s)
- The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence for Arts & Culture
(1) Individual (1) Organization (including NGO’s)
(1) Community and/or School-based Organization
Eligibility
1.
The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence for Corporate Social Responsibility
This award recognizes corporate social responsibility by companies operating in Jamaica in 2 categories (1) small companies and (1) larger companies. All entries submitted must state clearly if the entity being nominated is a “Foundation” or a “Company”.
The awardee must have:
- Demonstrated commitment to corporate citizenship through but not limited to the organization’s business strategy over 5 years or, where the company is less than 5 years old, for at least 80% of their existence.
- Demonstrated policies, programmes or projects with measurable/evidenced improvement of the communities in which they operate.

The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence for Civic Leadership
This award recognizes sustained commitment by individuals and non-profit organizations to national and community development evidenced by the funding and engagement in projects that enhance development, demonstrate and engender civic responsibility in 2 categories: (1) Individual and (1) Organization
The awardees must have:
- Made continuous impact (at least 5 years) in terms of improved social and economic conditions in a particular community or communities.
- Inspired/motivated others to cooperate in measurable/evidenced improvement of the lot of others through community involvement and projects.

The AMCHAM Jamaica Award of Excellence – Arts & Culture
This award recognizes outstanding contribution to the positive promotion of “Brand Jamaica” in a range of spheres, including the Visual, Literary and Performing Arts, by Individuals, Organizations (including NGO’s), and Community and/or School based Organizations. Visual Arts includes: ceramics, film, fine arts, and photography. Literary Arts includes: short & long stories, and anthology of poems. Performing Arts includes: theatre, dance, and music.
The awardees must have:
- Made a significant and continuous contribution (at least 5 years) to the positive advancement of Brand Jamaica at the national, regional and international level.
- Must have contributed to the measurable/evidenced sustainability of the specific area of art and culture, including but not limited to job creation, knowledge and skill-sharing.
Nominations
As of Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11:00am, the nomination process for these Awards will be open to the public. Each nomination received will be judged on its own merit. Two (2) Nomination Forms are available:
- One (1) for Nominations for Corporate Social Responsibility
- One (1) for Nominations in (2) Categories: Civic Leadership, and Arts & Culture
These forms are also available from the AMCHAM Jamaica Offices, Jamaica Pegasus, Suite 119, First Floor, 81 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5; or via e-mail at: amcham@cwjamaica.com; or, online at the AMCHAM Jamaica website at: www.amchamjamaica.org; and at www.suzukijamaica.com. Hard copies can be found at: Stewart’s Auto Sales, Ltd.; branches of Capital & Credit Merchant Bank; and Chronicles Ltd.
It is recommended that Nomination Forms be submitted electronically, and that the hard copy and substantiating documents be delivered to the AMCHAM Offices.
AMCHAM will acknowledge formally the receipt of all nominations.
Supporting Documents:
In the category of “Corporate Social Responsibility”, annual and financial reports are required.
In the categories of “Civic Leadership” and “Arts & Culture” an auditor’s report, or letter from an auditor that the non-profit is an organization in good standing is required; and, in the case of Individual nominees, two (2) letters of recommendation from reputable institutions or persons, are required.
Two (2) third party testimonials are required for each nomination submitted.
We encourage good quality photos, CD’s, DVDS, etc., and all of the above items should be delivered along with a hard copy of this Nomination Form to the AMCHAM office.
All items must be received at the AMCHAM Jamaica Office, First Floor, Suite 119 Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, 81 Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston 5, by 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2011.
Judging Panel
An independent judging panel made up of respected corporate citizens will review nominations and select winners in each of the three categories based on the information given on the nomination forms, substantiated by verifiable/measurable data provided by nominators.
NB: INCOMPLETE/UNSUBSTANTIATED FORMS WILL RENDER A NOMINEE INELIGIBLE
Rules
- The judge’s decision is final.
- AMCHAM Jamaica retains the right to publish the names of nominees and awardees
- All nominees must be agreeable to receiving the award at the AMCHAM Gala, should they be victorious. CEO’s of Companies; Directors/Heads of Non-profits and other Organizations; and Individuals, who are nominated and recognized as Finalists for these Awards are asked to be present and to receive the Award at the Gala to take place on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, at 7:00 pm.
- Documents submitted with nomination forms including photographs, DVDs, CDs, remain the property of AMCHAM Jamaica and will not be returned.
