"Repositioning Jamaica: Accelerating Growth"

The American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica in collaboration with the national investment promotion agency, JAMPRO, hosted a breakfast event for its members and the wider business community on Friday, March 17, under the theme "Transforming Jamaica: Accelerating Growth", which highlighted the Jamaica Legacy Strategy being developed by JAMPRO surrounding Cricket World Cup 2007.

David Faulks, Project Leader for the Cricket Legacy Strategy, who has done extensive work in the area of sports business development in relation to major international events including the Olympic Games among others delivered the main presentation on the opportunities being developed for Jamaica and the Caribbean. His talk was followed by a panel discussion, moderated by JAMPRO President Pat Francis. Panellists Robert Bryan, Executive Director of Jamaica Cricket 2007, Nicole Maraj-Pandohie - Corporate Communications Manager at JAMPRO and Arlene Martin, Project Manager of the Carbbean Business Opportunities Service informed guests of the many plans associated with the development of Kingston to host the event, the brand essence for Jamaica (Bold Energy) and approaches being taken to harmonize the promotional messages of the business community as well as the matchmaking service - CBOS - which has been created to plug local and regional businesses into the numerous procurement opportunities.

AMCHAM Member 3M InteraAmerica, Inc. sponsored the event and Sales Manager, Donovan James, delivered a presentation on 3M’s vast range of products, including some in the safety and security category which will be utilized during the CWC 2007. In his closing remarks, AMCHAM VP and General Manager of 3M Interamericas, Inc. Vincent Gordon charged members and the wider business community to take full advantage of the several opportunities set out by the presenter and the panellists.
